Right now, I'm thinking about The Ants. Not just any ants, but the ants that share my apartment. _The_ Ants. I think they actually live in the walls or floors of my building, and keep all the apartments under 24x7 surveillance. At least three ants will patrol the apartment at all times, and every year, they co-locate with at least one planter pot I've moved inside for the winter. They've been busily moving in since Christmas Eve, and my roommate and I have had fun experimenting with various anti-ant concoctions -- yeast and honey, 3% borax and honey, 10% borax and honey, plain old ant traps, and talcum powder.
So far, the ants eat all the honey, and stay clear of the talc. I've spread talc around the one pot they've inhabited; the ants seem bewildered for the moment. Maybe they're permanently trapped and will starve. That will take all winter, but it might allow me to save the plant and remove the ants, without resorting to pesticides.A blog. A real, live blog. You'd think I would have started one by now, but back when I first fancied a blog, I really wanted to write my own blogger; anything less would be weak. Then, as I surfed around various blogs, I noticed the incredible quantity of writing being done. Holy cow! People writing in an hour what I might write in a day. The blogger notion was immediately thrown onto the logpile, where it has remained for several years with the rest of the dust collection. Maybe I'll up and craft a blogger one day, maybe not.
For now, let's see how this writing thing actually goes. And the immediate concern: End of year activities. $100 donation to Oxfam for tsunami relief, after-Christmas sales, 11th hour trading, New Year's Eve preparations, a PC to repair, and I'm down to my last pair of pants.
