Updates...
The road trip pictures are up; they're rather sparse, mainly due to my constant forgetting I actually had a phone cam.

I've tried the pickles and carrots...and they survived the process. Once the spaghetti sauce is proven, the canner can be declared fully operational. The next stage: canning leftovers on a regular basis.

Since the weather has been miserable lately, a steady stream of soups and stews have emerged from the kitchen: chilis, gumbo, irish stew. $25 buys you 10-12 meals, and that isn't really skipping out on ingredients.

The Great Cleaning has begun. With any luck, I'll be able to see a floor or two around here. If I'm really fortunate, I'll be able to rearrange furniture. in either event, two or three carloads of donations and recyclables will be leaving my place later today, and a slew of collectibles will be eBayed in the coming weeks.

In bar/pub news, I've discovered Belly general store, in the old pharmacy at Highland and St. Charles. More precisely, I've discovered their bagels: almost fluffy-soft. My Sunday afternoon was made by sitting in front of the store with a Coke and a bagel. Also, Desi Spice (next to The Independent) proves to be pricey, but good.

In general, I've rediscovered Midtown and Virginia-Highland. I've always had a good time in those parts of town, even when I end up half-prone in a flowerbed. Take the train to Midtown station, and either the train or a cab home.
