Holiday Outlook...
I think I'm finally, officially, moved in. I've broken in the kitchen with a batch of meatballs, the art is tucked away in boxes for the time being, the card collection is half-sorted, and I've found my missing Warzone 2100 disk, two years of missing tax info, and an extra pair of pants. And now that I'm moved in, it's time to concentrate on the important things: Hockey, beer, games, and finding wherever the hell I packed my good shoes....
I went back to Virginia-Highland for the first time in months, it looked subdued, even for a post-Thanksgiving weekend. What really got my interest yesterday, was a trip to the local mall; it looked only slightly busier than a normal Monday. This is something to keep an eye on as December progresses; it's usually gridlock hell around here during the shopping season. Maybe this lack of interest will convert into some nice post-Christmas shopping.
Here's a salad idea, it worked very well for potlucks this Thanksgiving season, and provides an adequate answer to the time-honored question, "How does one make bagged salad palatable?" My answer was: raisins (red or green), sun-dried tomatos, flake coconut, toasted almonds, toasted pine nuts, olive oil and red wine vinegar.
