| I watched another remixed trailer yesterday morning, it occurred to me that the monster sound from the trailer sounds like a whale song, and it finally hit me: The monster we call Godzilla (and the movie of the same name) was originally named Gojira, literally translated as "Gorilla-Whale" or "Ape-Whale"; Big G's current form was derived during production of the original film, without changing the name. It may be that the Cloverfield crew have crafted their monster around that translation, restoring some legs once lost to evolution. Save the whales, indeed. |
