~9-Person Sabbat War Elder Draft, (3 + F)

9 players, 63 packs of Sabbat War, 7 packs of Dark Sovereigns, 3 rounds of play, 1 winner. For my third Draft tourney (having skipped both drafts of Dragon*Con 2000), I don't think I did that badly, as I actually got a VP.

The Draft

Me
Jose
Justin
D.Tatu
Derek

I picked the 7 luckiest packs from the pile of available packs, and immediately learned my first draft tourney lesson. Never, ever pick the luckiest packs, because you'll mainly see the cards you're not going to get.

As the draft format was Elder Draft, all players in the pod drafted vamps face-up, in horseshoe fashion, then an in-hand library in circular fashion. To spice up the draft, we agreed to throw one Dark Sovereigns pack into the mix. Princes, IC members, Giovanni, and Ravnos look real damn wierd in a Sabbat Draft. Then again, that Force of Will was a nice addition.

First Round
D.Tatu
Justin
Jose
Me
Derek

After drafting, we randomized seating order. the result was a round played in reverse draft order. Bonus style points for Me, for successfully using Riposte not once, but twice, in the game.

Second Round
(3 VP) Justin
(0 VP) D.Zopf
(1 VP) me
(0 VP) Brian

The deck cycled at the expense of my prey's minions, courtesy of Jacko and Luther's adequate coverage of deck skills. D.Zopf brought out a scary looking deck that didn't do much, other than equip. Then again, he did have to fend off Justin's five dom/for minions. So I sank a few of my prey's minions, fended off D.Zopf, and finally ousted my prey, with an assist from Justin's Anarchist Uprising. Bonus style points to Zopf, for drafting Victoria. It was at this point that I realized I had no clue what I was doing, and didn't have one when I drafted. Oops.

Third Round
Rob
D.Zopf
Brian
Me
Amy

I came within 1 pool of getting another VP, but No! my prey had to break out the untap. I did manage to hold my end of the table long enough for Rob to sweep, though. I was doing alright until Rob bled me for X, where X is the amount of pool I had. Dominate is a broken skill, shouldn't bleed for more than one. :P Bonus style points for Amy, who put P'base:Montreal into play, then used the Hand of Conrad to retrieve a burned Tommy from the ash heap, in order to use the P'base.

Finals
D.Tatu
D.Zopf
Rob
Derek
Me

Justin ran out of time, and Amy didn't want to play in the finals since Tatu had donated her only VP of the day. So Derek and I seated first, and nobody else cared where they sat, as long as they were not on Derek's immediate left. Noting my hand full of protean, and no protean vamps, I pulled out the big 'Upstreamer' sign, and proceeded to climb the mountain. Two notes about mountains: (a)the mountain does not have to be First Union to come to you, and (b) if there is a mountain heading in your direction, get out of its way.
