Tournament Report
17-player Constructed (3+F)
Atlanta, GA
2001 North American Qualifier (Southeast Regional)
May __, 2001

Although I missed the finals by .5 or 1 VP, I qualified for nationals. And on 3 hours sleep. wooohooo!

Round 1: . . .

Round 2:
     (2 VP) :LSJ: Justicar/IC Toreador.
(0 VP) :Charles _____: Large Malk sneak and bleed.
(0 VP) :David Davila: Nosferatu vote.
(3 VP) :Me: Untuned Weenie toolbox
(0 VP) :Niki Stewart: Weenie Night Moves

I was SO ousted...

I'm sitting there with three pool, one untapped minion (Ohanna), to David's three nossies (two princes). I have an Ancient Influence and Delaying Tactics in hand. LSJ has already ousted Charles, who had weakened David (Govern/Conditioning tends to do that). So: David calls a KRC (or ConAg), I toss the vote card and the D.T. After the vote, I replace those two with a Deflection and the first of two Conditionings in the deck. The following Computer hacking was deflected, then I took another Computer Hack, and I was doomed...and then LSJ played a Life Boon on the last bleed, leaving David tapped out without a VP (or pool) to show for it.

So I bled Niki for 5 or 6, bringing her down to 5, within striking range of the conditioning. LSJ then toasted my Antoinette (and her laptop and Saturday-night-Special) with a Protect Thine Own, on his way to ousting David. Then I ousted Niki with the surprise conditioning, after making sure she could block my last two 'bleeds of one'.
I then had superior numbers on Scott, who ran out of untap. 3VP and qualification!

Extra props for Charles, keeping the tournament honest with large sneak and bleed pressure in a field of largely vote or intercept decks.

Round 3:
(1 VP) :Fred Parker: Night Moves with bounce
     (0 VP) :Me:
(1 VP) :Chad Brinkley: Gangrel Sneak/Bleed/Untap/Poke
(2 VP) :Derek Ray: Omaya has big Eyeball ??!

For me, this round sucked rocks, and I knew from the second turn it was going to suck rocks. Fred brought out a ton of Caitiff and Ingrid Russo. Derek didn't have the Eagle Sight (and 3 intercept) to block the Night Moves, until after I was ousted. So Derek instead used massive amounts of transient intercept to block Chad, who couldn't believe he was getting blocked @ 3 stealth, and was rather surprise to see Omaya's superior Auspex.

So Chad walled up with claws and untapped minions. I couldn't bleed through (without losing all my minions), so I hung on as long as I could. Parthenon/Powerbase:Montreal helped negate one Night Moves per turn, and assorted deflections pitched in, to make Fred largely exhaust his library in the process of ousting me. Fred was then easy bait for Derek.

At this time, neither Derek nor Chad could actually get any bleeds through on one another, and neither could actually do much minion damage, due to Chad's Flak Jackets and light fortitude, and Derek's thicker fortitude (and Precognition and Omaya's special). So they mutually withdrew with 5 or 10 minutes left, after a few rounds of futility.
